Regular attendance is essential for student learning, wellbeing and success. Every day at school provides valuable opportunities for students to build their knowledge, develop positive relationships and remain connected with their teachers and classmates.

Missing just one day of school each week can quickly add up to approximately two months of lost learning across a school year. Establishing strong attendance habits helps students make consistent progress and supports their long-term educational and social development.

Every Day Counts is a Queensland Government initiative that promotes a shared commitment to improving student attendance. Its key messages are:

  • all children should be enrolled at school and attend every school day
  • schools should monitor attendance, communicate with families and implement strategies that support regular attendance
  • unexplained absences and truancy may place students in unsafe situations and affect their future opportunities
  • school attendance is a shared responsibility involving students, families, schools and the wider community.

Springwood Central State School encourages families to prioritise regular and punctual attendance. Parents and carers are asked to notify the school whenever their child is absent and to work with school staff if there are circumstances affecting their child’s attendance.

Further information is available through the Department of Education’s Every Day Counts initiative.
