Springwood Central State School is committed to inclusive schooling practices.  Inclusive schooling practices recognise and respond to the diverse needs of all students, accommodating both different styles and rates of learning.  Quality education is provided through appropriate curriculum decisions, organisational arrangements and teaching strategies, as well as effective utilisation of resources and successful partnerships with parents, service providers and all other significant stakeholders.   Inclusive education encompasses all aspects of school life and is supported by culture, policies, programs and practices.

At Springwood Central State School emphasis is placed on supporting all students through the use of tailored supports, thus enabling students to work and achieve at their individual level across all aspects of school life.  There is a focus on setting high expectations for all students, valuing and celebrating diversity and employing high quality, evidence-based teaching practices focused on high levels of learning for every student.

Inclusive schooling maximises the outcomes of all students through the identification and reduction of barriers to learning. A premium is placed upon universally designing the school experience to ensure equitable access, participation and learning for all. Students are provided with appropriate adjustments and curriculum provisions to ensure full engagement within regular classrooms and the broader school community, including the provision of age equivalent curriculum with adjustments to complexity where necessary.

Inclusive education means that all students, regardless of difference, have equitable access to quality education and opportunities to be successful.  The Department of Education recognises that inclusive education will ensure that all students

  • attend their local state school or education centre, and be welcomed
  • access and participate in a high-quality education and fully engage in the curriculum alongside their similar aged peers
  • learn in a safe and supportive environment, free from bullying, discrimination or harassment
  • achieve academically and socially with reasonable adjustments and supports tailored to meet their needs. (Dept of Ed 2018)
